September Club Meeting
Denise Corliss
Rescheduled: Denise and Aid'n have been deployed to assist with hurricane Gustav rescue efforts.

We wish them well
We look forward to hearing from them at a later date.Directions

7:00PM Meeting and Club Business
7:30PM Speaker Denise Corliss and her FEMA certified golden Aid'N "Search and Rescue"

We are really fortunate to have GHGRC member Denise Corliss coming to speak at our September meeting about her goldens who are FEMA certified Search and Rescue dogs. There are only 200 Fema Advanced Certified Search and Rescue dogs in the US and Denise has two: goldens Bretagne and Aid'N.

For those of you not familiar with the process, each dog and handler must pass a rigorous national certification and teams must be re-certified every two years. There are 2 levels of certification: Basic and Advanced. It takes year of training to reach Basic and many never reach the Advanced. Most of the dogs in the program are Labs, Goldens, German Shepards, Belgian Malinois and Border Collies. Denise and her goldens are members of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department and are deployed in Search and Rescue missions.

Denise and Bretagne were deployed for the search at 9-11. There is a wonderful article the NY Golden Retriever club did about the Goldens at 9-11, and a picture of Denise and her dog are here: http://www.grccny.org/images/GRNews-GoldensofGroundZero-Part1.pd

Recently, Denise, Bretagne and Aid'N were profiled in the Copperfield newspaper, along with some great pictures of their training: http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2008/08/06/copperfield_sun/news/080608_k9.txt
